On 8–10 July, the BRICS and SCO summits will take place in Ufa. Vladimir Putin will take part in the summits as head of the country currently holding the presidency in these organisations.
The BRICS leaders will discuss political coordination and global governance, ensuring sustainable development, and expanding cooperation between the member countries. They will exchange views on the prospects for the BRICS New Development Bank and the Contingent Reserve Arrangement. The summit programme also includes outreach meetings between the BRICS leaders and members of the SCO and the Eurasian Economic Union, and a meeting with representatives of the BRICS Business Council. Mr Putin will meet separately with trade union leaders from the BRICS countries. A package of documents is expected to be adopted at the summit.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State will discuss the organisation’s continued development, strengthening its role on the international stage, and deepening coordination on current global and regional issues. The SCO leaders will approve a solid package of documents, including the SCO Development Strategy through to 2025. They will also decide on the start of the accession procedure for India and Pakistan. The Ufa Declaration will be signed at the summit.
Mr Putin will hold bilateral meetings with foreign leaders on the sidelines of the BRICS and SCO summits.
