Meeting of State Council Commission on Science

Presidential Aide, State Council Secretary Igor Levitin and Novosibirsk Region Governor Andrei Travnikov held a regular meeting of the State Council Commission on Science.

Attending the meeting were Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Alexei Medvedev, Deputy General Director, Head of Programmes and Projects at the Russian Science Foundation Andrei Blinov, representatives of relevant regional and federal government bodies, representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, heads of leading federal higher education institutions, as well as researchers and experts.

The participants discussed the development of world-class research and education centres, Russian regions’ ties with the Russian Science Foundation, as well as their proposals for support measures in the field of science and innovation in the context of countering the current sanctions pressure.

Igor Levitin noted that Russian regions are in need of research projects that would help counter sanctions and advance import substitution and economic growth in the shortest possible time.

Alexei Medvedev reported on a recent review of the world-class research and education centres’ development programmes and projects they include, and presented proposals for improving the management of such centres and measures to support them.

Andrei Blinov informed the participants on the Russian regions’ interaction with the Russian Science Foundation.

The participants discussed the reports as well as the proposals received by the commission on the support and development of scientific research in the regions.

The proposals and decisions supported by the Commission at the meeting will underlie the relevant reports to the President, and pave the way for proposals for improving the legal framework in order to enhance the role of Russian regions in the country’s scientific and technological development.
