The Council for the Development and Promotion of the New Russian Style has been established in furtherance of the President’s directive.
The meeting was attended by Presidential Adviser Yelena Yampolskaya, Deputy Head of the Presidential Directorate for Social Projects Alexei Zharich, General Director of the Russia National Centre Natalya Virtuozova, representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities. Also present were leading art and industrial universities, design schools from across the country, and experts in design and architecture.
Opening the meeting, Council Chair Yelena Yampolskaya emphasised that the national style has assumed the status of a matter of state importance. Accordingly, and in strict compliance with the President’s instruction, work on the development of a new Russian style has commenced at the Russia National Centre. This initiative is directed at shaping a nationally oriented environment within the country and is intended to serve as one of the instruments of soft power in promoting the image of Russia abroad.
Deputy Head of the Presidential Directorate for Social Projects Alexei Zharich underscored the significance of regulatory frameworks and the training of specialised professionals, as well as the involvement of leading universities and representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the Council’s work. The training programmes for designers, architects and artists – along with their inherent values and conceptual approaches – will exert a direct influence on the formation of the visual identity of our country.
General Director of the Russia National Centre Natalya Virtuozova reiterated the Centre’s key role in shaping our country’s image and in demonstrating its achievements.
During the meeting, the structure of the Council for the Development and Promotion of the New Russian Style in public spaces was approved. The participants discussed principal areas of activity and identified priority tasks for the Council’s members in the domains of graphic, environmental and industrial design.
Among the Council’s priority objectives are the creation of national fonts and a national colour palette, the formulation of design concepts for public spaces and sites of civic identity, government institutions, and airport arrival zones – all to feature national symbols and art installations that convey the country’s unity and all-Russian identity.
