Nikolai Patrushev chaired a meeting on navigation safety

During his working trip to Nizhny Novgorod, Presidential Aide and Chairman of the Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev chaired a meeting on the safety of maritime and river navigation.

The discussion focused on the need to assess the enforcement practices for existing regulations, as well as to improve legislation in the field of navigation safety.

The participants considered measures to upgrade the transport and support infrastructure on inland waterways, including ports and berths, as well as issues related to optimising vessel inspection procedures and reducing their downtime.

They placed a special emphasis on taking steps to eliminate bottlenecks on inland waterways to increase their throughput capacity.

The participants noted the importance of continuous monitoring and analysis of incidents on water bodies and studying the waterways to assess accident risks on each section.

The meeting was attended by Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District Igor Komarov, Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin, representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Rostransnadzor and Rosmorrechflot regulators, and companies involved in maritime activities.

On the same day, Nikolai Patrushev visited the Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard. At the meeting with the plant’s management, the discussion focused on its production load, financial and economic indicators and plans to modernise production.

During his visit to the Alekseyev Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoils, the Presidential Aide was shown the process of creating underwater fins for such boats and testing ship models in the experimental tank, and also visited the engineering and design centre, where projects of modern high-speed passenger ships and new-generation ekranoplans are being developed.

In addition, Nikolai Patrushev held a working meeting with the leadership of the Afrikantov Experimental Design Bureau for Mechanical Engineering to discuss the company’s tasks to develop equipment for nuclear icebreakers.
