Maria Lvova-Belova visited the Penza Region

The Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova made a working visit to the Penza Region, where she opened the Saving Hope crisis centre for families, discussed the results of the nationwide inspection of the social orphanhood prevention system with the head of the region Oleg Melnichenko, and held a personal reception of people.

At the opening ceremony for the Saving Hope crisis centre for families, Maria Lvova-Belova highlighted the comprehensive assistance provided for families, such as temporary housing to families in crisis situations, rehabilitation for people suffering from addictions, and legal advice, including on issues of restricting and depriving parental rights.

Later, during her meeting with Penza Region Governor Oleg Melnichenko, Maria Lvova-Belova noted the region’s success in the Prevention of Social Orphanhood Among Children Under Four Years of Age project, in particular, the current Children in the Family services and repurpose of children's centres among other things. Since March 2023, 68 children under four years of age have returned to their relatives.

The team of the nationwide inspection of the social orphanhood prevention system audited the region last December: studied management and financial models, inspected the work of 20 specialised institutions and organisations, and met with families who found themselves in a difficult life situation. The commissioner gave recommendations that would help the region achieve sustainable results.

In addition, Maria Lvova-Belova visited the multifunctional family centrre in the Oktyabrsky District of Penza and the regional social rehabilitation centre for children and young people with disabilities, where she held a personal reception of citizens.
