Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin and Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gleb Nikitin co-chaired a meeting of the State Council Commission on Environment and Natural Resources, via videoconference.
The meeting was attended by Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy in the Urals Federal District Vladimir Yakushev, Trans-Baikal Territory Governor Alexander Osipov, Kurgansk Region Governor Vadim Shumkov, Director General of Russian Environmental Operator Denis Butsayev and representatives of relevant federal executive bodies, regions of the Russian Federation, state corporations, public organisations and the business community.
Opening the discussion, Igor Levitin said that the Government and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have defined the key risks for the economy under sanctions and are adjusting the conditions for implementing the Ecology National Project.
Gleb Nikitin said the previous goals to create a favourable environment for the people must be met, especially in the current conditions – Russia is developing new manufacturing capacity and upgrading existing lines, and it is important to make sure they meet today’s environmental standards.
The floor was taken by a representative of the Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment who spoke about ways of ensuring environmental safety and monitoring the environment, and upcoming plans within the Ecology National Project.
The participants proposed additional measures of financial support for companies that deal with waste management and depend on imported equipment, parts and software. They also proposed introducing amendments to the tax law and adjusting the indicators of the federal programmes that are part of the Ecology National Project.
The proposals approved at the meeting will be submitted for further consideration by the State Council working group on resolving economic issues and countering the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). It will study the issue in cooperation with the government commission on enhancing the sustainability of the Russian economy under sanctions.
