Telephone conversation with British Prime Minister David Cameron

May 25, 2015

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Mr Putin once again congratulated Mr Cameron on his re-election as Prime Minister in the parliamentary election on May 7, 2015.

The President affirmed his readiness to work together with the British government to restore constructive cooperation on the bilateral agenda and on international affairs.

Mr Putin and Mr Cameron discussed, in particular, the situation in the Middle East, especially the crisis in Syria and efforts to combat the Islamic State terrorist organisation. The two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the productive joint efforts the six-nation group of mediators made in talks on the Iranian nuclear programme.

Exchanging views on the crisis in Ukraine, both leaders emphasised the need to observe strictly the full package of measures taken to implement the Minsk Agreements of February 12, 2015. Mr Putin noted the importance of establishing direct dialogue between the authorities in Kiev and representatives of the Donbass region, which would help to achieve a lasting settlement to the crisis in southeast Ukraine.

The two leaders agreed to continue Russian-British contacts at various levels.
