June 28, 2022

A meeting of the working group to prepare a meeting of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport on sports infrastructure development and equipment was held via conference.

The meeting was chaired by Presidential Aide, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Fitness and Sport Igor Levitin and Sverdlovsk Region Governor, head of the working group Yevgeny Kuyvashev.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Presidential Executive Office, the Government Staff, the Federal Assembly, federal and regional executive authorities, national sports federations, shareholding companies and other organisations.

The key report was delivered by Yevgeny Kuyvashev, who noted the importance of creating a modern sports infrastructure within walking distance for the purpose of creating a people-friendly urban environment, as well as the need to standardise and certify Russian-made sports equipment and gear and making them more competitive on the international market. The head of the working group highlighted international cooperation arrangements, involving Russian industry and manufacturers from friendly countries, efforts to streamline the regulatory framework for developing and equipping sports infrastructure, and generating state contracts.

The heads of the Ministry of Sport, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Russian Association of Sports Facilities, the Association of Russian sports goods and equipment manufacturers and exporters, and other organisations spoke at the meeting.

It was noted that, in order to attain national development goals and targets, it was necessary to ensure a greater degree of technological sovereignty in manufacturing sports equipment and gear, to compile a modern online catalogue of sports goods and to launch their batch production with a focus on safety requirements.

The meeting participants also discussed area planning issues for sports facilities in the regions, with due consideration for regional specifics and traditions, as well as parallel imports of certain categories of sports goods for national and regional teams.
