Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.
The President of Russia congratulated Shinzo Abe on his election to the post of Prime Minister.
Mr Putin invited the Prime Minister of Japan to make an official visit to Russia in 2013. It was noted that the timing will be agreed on via diplomatic channels.
The leaders underscored their mutual interest in further broadening bilateral relations, increasing cooperation in the trade, economic, science, technology, and humanitarian sectors.
Mr Putin and Mr Abe also touched on current international issues, including the situation on the Korean peninsula.
