Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.
The President of Russia congratulated Shinzo Abe on Tokyo’s convincing and victorious bid to host the 2020 Olympic Summer Games. In turn, the Prime Minister of Japan praised the organisation and outcomes of St Petersburg’s G20 summit, and wished Russia success as host of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
While discussing the situation in Syria, the two leaders expressed their support for the initiative to place Syria’s stockpile of chemical weapons under international control. Shinzo Abe praised Russia’s efforts in this respect.
