Meeting with President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov

May 2, 2017, Sochi

Vladimir Putin met with President of the Republic of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov. They discussed, in particular, economic cooperation between the two countries. The presidential election in South Ossetia was held in April 2017.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Good afternoon.

Please accept my warmest greetings I am very happy to meet you and would like to congratulate you on the results of the election.

I know that you are an ardent supporter of developing relations with Russia in different areas. We are implementing a well-known agreement, which you actively supported. I very much hope that under your leadership, the republic will do everything that we agreed on to implement this agreement.

We have ambitious cooperation programmes on security, economic development and interaction and the social sphere. Russia co-finances many issues of a purely social nature, and we plan to continue this.

We will develop the investment field, namely, the restoration of the republic’s infrastructure and the creation of conditions for economic growth.

I think that we will have quite a lot to talk about today. I am very glad to see you.

President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov: Thank you very much, Mr President.

First of all, I am grateful to you for finding the time in your busy schedule for this meeting. I am grateful, of course, for the attention you pay to the Republic of South Ossetia.

I am sincerely grateful for the kind words that were sent to me upon being elected President of the Republic of South Ossetia and taking office.

And of course, this meeting is important for our people. I would like to convey to you the enormous gratitude of the people of the Republic of South Ossetia for the attention that you pay to the republic.

The election was tense and competitive. However, whatever views there are on the solution of domestic political problems, in any case, the policy remains unchanged, integration and cooperation with the Russian Federation also remain unchanged, and the people fully support this.

I am very grateful to you and I think that the whole range of issues that will be discussed at our meeting will be realised, without a doubt, and the social and economic situation of the Republic of South Ossetia will improve.

And of course, the issues of greater integration, greater cooperation and alliance between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation will find a new impetus in these processes.
