Dmitry Medvedev issued instructions in connection with plane crash near Petrozavodsk

Dmitry Medvedev expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the plane crash near Petrozavodsk and issued instructions to provide assistance to the victims and identify the causes of the crash.

Transport Minister Igor Levitin briefed Dmitry Medvedev on the situation at the crash site. Per the President’s directive, Mr Levitin is to travel to Karelia to supervise the investigation into the causes of the tragedy.

Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu informed Dmitry Medvedev on assistance being provided to the victims in the crash. Mr Shoigu also reported that the Ministry’s mobile hospital carrying essential equipment and medicines has been dispatched to Karelia.

In addition, Dmitry Medvedev issued instructions to the Healthcare Ministry and Karelia’s leadership to render assistance to the victims and the families of those killed in the crash.

The Tu-134 flight from Moscow carrying 52 passengers made a crash landing on a highway near Petrozavodsk just before midnight. Forty-four people were killed; eight survivors are in critical condition.
