Seminar on state ethnic policy in Urals Federal District

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Magomedsalam Magomedov and Presidential Envoy to the Urals Federal District Igor Kholmanskikh chaired a regional seminar on theimplementation of the state ethnic policy in the Urals Federal District.

In his report, Igor Kholmanskikh underscored a high implementation rate of the decisions made at the 2015 seminar, gave a detailed account of the current situation, and identified possible threats in inter-ethnic relations in the Urals Federal District.

Magomedsalam Magomedov noted a positive trend in inter-ethnic relations in the Urals Federal District and touched upon the migration issue, which is currently essential for the district, stressing the importance of migrant registration and integration, as well as helping them learn Russian, history, traditions and customs of the local population.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office emphasised the importance of countering ethnic criminal gangs whose actions cause considerable damage to national unity, foster xenophobia, and inter-ethnic and inter-religious strife.

Mr Magomedov called on the top officials in the Urals Federal District to boost interaction with the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs in implementing the agenda of the Strategy for the State Ethnic Policy until 2025, in harmonising inter-ethnic relations and enhancing the unity of the multi-ethnic Russian nation.

Igor Barinov, Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs, expressed readiness to render required support to the regions.

Speaking at the seminar were Kurgan Region Governor Alexei Kokorin, Tyumen Region Governor Vladimir Yakushev, Chelyabinsk Region Governor Boris Dubrovsky, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area –Yugra Governor Natalya Komarova, and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area Governor Dmitry Kobylkin.

Summing up the results of the seminar, Mr Magomedov and Mr Kholmanskikh outlined a number of challenges for 2016 which underlay the decisions taken by the participants.

Among the seminar participants were members of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Affairs, Presidential Executive Office staff, heads of regional executive bodies, and representatives of the public and the expert community.
