Construction launch for stretch of Moscow-St Petersburg motorway

June 17, 2015, Leningrad Region

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov attended the cornerstone-laying ceremony for a stretch of the M-11 Moscow-St Petersburg toll motorway between the 543rd and 684th kilometres.

This stretch of motorway will pass through St Petersburg, Leningrad and Novgorod regions, and will connect to the Western High-Speed Diameter.

Sergei Ivanov assured those attending the ceremony that the 140 kilometres of road will be completed on time. The Chief of Staff also expressed the hope that residents of neighbouring areas will appreciate the motorway’s advantages.

The Moscow-St Petersburg motorway will be fully operational by 2018. The entire road will be traffic light-free and equipped with modern infrastructure. The motorway ‘s designated speed will be 150 kilometres per hour, which will allow the travel time from Moscow to St Petersburg to be reduced significantly.
