During a working meeting, Stavropol Territory Governor Valery Gayevsky briefed Dmitry Medvedev on the situation in the region and assistance being rendered to those injured in the terrorist attack in Pyatigorsk on August 17.
The President stressed that all victims must receive assistance, medical care and financial compensation as provided for by the legislation. The Governor told Mr Medvedev that of the 29 people who required medical aid, 15 were still undergoing treatment at the hospital. Mr Gayevsky also informed the President that the victims are receiving every assistance possible and will be paid 50,000 rubles [over $1,600] each in compensation from the regional budget.
After the meeting with the Governor, Mr Medvedev visited the Pyatigorsk hospital where the victims were receiving treatment. The Chief of Surgery told the President that the hospital is well equipped with the necessary diagnostic equipment, which significantly helped in the treatment of the people injured in the blast. At the same time, the hospital lacks some medical treatment equipment. Mr Medvedev said that the Healthcare and Social Development Ministry will be instructed to supply the necessary equipment to the Central City Hospital in Pyatigorsk.
The issues discussed at the meeting with Stavropol Territory Governor also included the harvest, measures to counteract the consequences of the drought, state support to farmers and curbing food prices.
