Meeting of the G20 summit organising committee

November 26, 2012

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov held a meeting of the Organising Committee for Russia’s Presidency of the G20 in 2013.

Mr Ivanov outlined the main themes on the agenda for Russia’s presidency of the G20 and emphasised that one of the biggest tasks will be to concentrate efforts on taking the practical decisions that will get the global economy and finances in a healthier state and encourage economic growth and job creation.

Priorities will include offering incentives for investment activity and employment, including for vulnerable groups of the population. Russia proposes the new initiative of holding a joint meeting of finance and labour ministers as one of the events during its presidency.

Regulating the finance sector and improving the International Monetary Fund’s work will also be key issues on the agenda. Mr Ivanov noted the need to give developing countries and economies a greater role in managing the IMF.

Russia takes over the presidency of the G20 on December 1, 2012. The main summit events will take place on September 5 and 6, 2013 in the Konstantin Palace in St Petersburg. Business and civil society representatives will hold summits too, and a youth summit and meeting of trade union leaders are also planned.
