Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov took part in a ceremony unveiling a restored obelisk commemorating the House of Romanov’s rule in the Alexandrovsky Garden by the Kremlin walls.
Mr Ivanov said in his remarks at the ceremony that the obelisk’s restoration was a means of paying tribute to the Romanov dynasty, which shaped Russia’s development for 300 years.
Over that time, Russia became a strong sovereign country and made tremendous strides in its industrial and cultural development, Mr Ivanov said.
Mr Ivanov also congratulated everyone taking part in the ceremony on National Unity Day.
The obelisk was erected in 1914 to mark the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty’s rule. During the Soviet period it was changed into a monument to outstanding thinkers and activists in the fight for workers’ rights. In 2013, it was restored to its original appearance.
