Sergei Ivanov spoke at a conference organised by State Company Russian Highways (Avtodor)

September 12, 2014, Moscow

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov took part in a conference marking the 5th anniversary of the establishment of State Company Russian Highways (Avtodor) and ten years since work began on carrying out public-private partnership projects in the road sector.

Mr Ivanov noted that Avtodor has achieved some big results over these five years. It has modernised federal highways, repaired many bridges, and brought new high-speed highway sections into operation. Mr Ivanov also noted the company’s big planned projects, such as starting operation of the high-speed Moscow-St Petersburg highway and launching the Central Ring Road. “A developed road network will make Russia more effective in making full use of its competitive advantages as a Eurasian transport power,” Mr Ivanov said.

Mr Ivanov noted that President Vladimir Putin set the task in his 2012 Annual Address to the Federal Assembly of doubling the amount of road construction over the next decade, and said that all needed steps must be taken to achieve this goal, in particular “flexible use of public-private partnership mechanisms.”

Mr Ivanov read out a message from the President to the conference participants.
