During his visit to Ulyanovsk, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov visited the Volga Sports Arena ice palace, where the KES-BASKET Russian School Basketball League Championships were held on March 29-April 4.
Before the final match, Mr Ivanov toured the sports arena. The Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office said that in his opinion, Russia should create as many large athletic leagues for high school students as possible in the most popular sports: basketball, football, track and field, and swimming, noting that KES-BASKET is the foundation for Russia’s basketball pyramid. The goal of the School Basketball League is not to lead to professional sports but to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The KES-BASKET tournament is held under the aegis of the Sports Ministry for the 8th time. Over 15,000 schools from 62 Russian regions take part in the competitions. The event’s programme featured a competition between basketball sharpshooters and a friendly wheelchair basketball match.
The competition honoured the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Mr Ivanov toured a military technology exhibition 70th Anniversary of Victory in the sports complex.
