Monument to Alexander Prokhorov unveiled in Moscow

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov took part in the ceremony unveiling a monument to Nobel Prize winner, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Alexander Prokhorov.

A message of greetings from Vladimir Putin was read out by Sergei Ivanov at the unveiling of the monument to Academician Alexander Prokhorov. It reads, in part, that the scholar's fundamental works and studies over the years of his intense work have truly changed the world, opening up grand prospects for the development of new technology in industry, healthcare, the nuclear and space industries.

The Chief of Staff said the scholar's enthusiasm and innovative approach allowed him to make unique discoveries and apply them to commercial production.

Alexander Prokhorov is an outstanding Russian Soviet physicist, twice Hero of Socialist Labour, Nobel Prize winner, laureate of the Lenin and State prizes, one of the founders of quantum electronics. He worked in radiophysics, accelerator physics, radio-frequency spectroscopy, quantum electronics and its applications, laser physics and nonlinear optics. His work led to the implementation of laser technology in various spheres of the economy, the creation of remote space communication systems and development of fibre optics.
