While visiting Kamchatka Territory, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov held a meeting on infrastructure reconstruction at Yelizovo airport – the international air terminal for the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr Ivanov criticised the delays in completing the airport’s modernisation and said that this kind of failure to keep to schedule is an example of inefficient use of budget money. Mr Ivanov called for a more responsible approach to selecting contractors and subcontractors to carry out big projects.
The meeting ended with a decision to monitor more closely the reconstruction work at Yelizovo airport. In particular, Mr Ivanov ordered that the Presidential Executive Office receive a monthly report on compliance with the project timetable.
The modernisation work at Yelizovo airport was to have been completed by September 1, 2014, but the facility was not ready on time. The completion date has been put back to May 2016. The work will give the airport greater throughput capacity and improve the general flight safety level.
