Meeting of State Council Commission on Culture

March 30, 2022

Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin and Samara Region Governor Dmitry Azarov co-chaired a meeting of the State Council Commission on Culture.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, Ryazan Region Governor Nikolai Lyubimov, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova, deputy regional governors of the Russian Federation that oversee issues of culture, as well as representatives of the relevant federal executive bodies and the cultural community.

Igor Levitin urged the regions to take an active part in drafting proposals to ensure the sustainable development of culture under sanctions.

Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova noted that the efforts to preserve and support folk art and traditional folk culture, ethnic and cultural identity, the non-material cultural heritage and linguistic diversity are playing a key role in the further development of our culture. They are inseparably linked with the formation of a pan-Russian civic identity, and the consolidation of Russia’s statehood and the unity of its multi-ethnic people. It is not incidental that government bodies are paying serious attention to these issues at all levels.

Head of the State Council working group on culture and Samara Region Governor Dmitry Azarov noted that the themes of patriotism, a civic stance and multi-ethnic unity must be particularly pronounced in the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia. Culture must become a powerful tool for developing the spiritual dimension.

The participants also reviewed the implementation of the Pushkin Card federal project, reviewed the system’s problems, and suggested possible ways of resolving them.
