Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin and Altai Territory Governor Viktor Tomenko co-chaired a meeting of the State Council Commission on Agriculture. The meeting took place in a mixed format – in person in the Republic of Tatarstan as part of the Russian Field Day exhibition, and via videoconference.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Yelena Fastova, Chair of the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues Vladimir Kashin, deputy regional governors and heads of related federal executive bodies, industry unions, expert organisations and development institutions.
Opening the meeting, Igor Levitin said that the technological and resource sovereignty of the agriculture sector is a priority for the country that must be supported by developing competitive agricultural machine building, domestic selection in crop cultivation and livestock breeding and localising agricultural chemicals production. In their reports, Yelena Fastova and Vladimir Kashin outlined key goals in developing the agro-industrial sector.
Speeches at the commission’s meeting were made by General Director of Rosagroleasing Pavel Kosov, General Director of the Kirov Plant Sergei Serebryakov, Chair of the National Seed Union Association Council Igor Lobach, Chair of the People’s Farmer Association Council Oleg Sirota, and representatives of the business and expert community.
The meeting participants discussed the development of the domestic agricultural equipment market, formation of new suppliers of machines, spare parts and special equipment for domestic farmers, and the scientific and personnel support for the agriculture sector.
Igor Levitin instructed the commission members to continue looking for solutions that boost the agriculture sector’s efficiency and, if need be, to submit their proposals on its further development at a meeting of the State Council or its Presidium.
