Meeting of Presidium of the Presidential Council for Countering Corruption

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov chaired a meeting of the Presidium of the Presidential Council for Countering Corruption.

Participation in corruption schemes and bribery must be condemned by all of society as immoral and shameful, Sergei Ivanov emphasized in his speech at the meeting. The Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office noted that currently, an effective fight against corruption is impossible without active involvement in these efforts of civil society, and called on members of civil society to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in areas where corruption-related crimes are most frequent.

The meeting also addressed the results of anti-corruption efforts in 2011. According to the Investigative Committee, the greatest number of corruption-related infractions occurred in healthcare, education, and the housing and utilities sector. Corresponding incriminating materials have been sent to the courts concerning heads of 255 municipalities and 253 municipal employees. There are 1,990 cases initiated against healthcare and social security sector workers, nearly 2,000 criminal cases in science and education sector, and 203 cases against housing and utilities sector workers.
