Working group meeting on preparing session of Council for Development of Physical Fitness and Sport and State Council Commission on Tourism, Physical Fitness and Sport

March 30, 2022, Moscow

An expanded meeting took place of the working group on the preparation of the session of the Council for the Development of Physical Fitness and Sport on further development of popular sports, involving the State Council Commission on Tourism, Physical Fitness and Sport.

The meeting was chaired by Presidential Aide, Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Development of Physical Fitness and Sport, and Secretary of the State Council Igor Levitin; head of the working group, Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov; and Chairman of the State Council Commission, Governor of Primorye Territory Oleg Kozhemyako. Minister of Sport Oleg Matytsin also attended.

More than 630 people took part in the event, with over 300 of them attending in person. The participants included the leadership and representatives of the Presidential Executive Office, the Government Office, the Federal Assembly, federal executive bodies, heads of 15 Russian regions, heads of regional executive bodies responsible for sports, education and healthcare, state corporations, joint-stock companies, national sports federations and other organisations.

In his remarks, Igor Levitin highlighted the need to introduce up-to-date digital platforms to be able to give a more accurate assessment of Russian regions’ efforts to promote popular sports.

Andrei Vorobyov presented a new information system for sports, noting that it promoted five important principles: accessibility of sports facilities; voluntary participation; organisation of events; raising public awareness and marketing; and supporting people's motivation.

Oleg Kozhemyako said the system developed by the Moscow Region needed to be replicated. He also said the State Council commission was reviewing other regions’ proposals on measures to support popular sports to determine if they should be included in the priority action plan to ensure the steady development of the Russian economy.

The report to be delivered at the meeting of the Council for the Development of Physical Fitness and Sport was approved by the participants and will be finalised, taking into account the current socioeconomic situation in conditions of anti-Russia sanctions.
