Official website of the President of Russia

News   /

President Vladimir Putin opened the website “The President to School Age Citizens.”

January 19, 2004, The Kremlin, Moscow

The President expressed hope that the new website would enable young Russians to acquire new knowledge. President Putin said he was convinced that computers could not replace books and conversations with interesting people.

An online conference with the Centre of Communications and Educational Networks in the Yaroslavl Region and involving children taking an active part in the Centre’s work was also held.

When asked why the website contained little information about his background and school years, President Putin replied that such information was not vitally important. He said the website must focus on state activities and must also provide insights into national development. According to Mr Putin, the new website must also explain the rights and duties of young people, the national state system and provide job counselling. President Putin stressed that, in his opinion, the website should not focus on his personal life.

The Russian leader proposed establishing a public council for the website that would help expand the online portal.

The website “Russian President to School Age Citizens” is intended for children between the ages of 8 and 14, providing insights into the presidency, the fundamentals of democracy, the history of power in Russia and the Moscow Kremlin.
