The President thanked Fathi Sorour for his personal contribution to the development of Russian-Egyptian relations. Vladimir Putin expressed the hope that Mr Sorour, who for many years headed the Russia-Egypt friendship society, would continue to support the development of ties between our two countries.

Intergovernmental ties play an increasingly important role in Russian-Egyptian cooperation, Mr Putin stressed.

Representing the Russian side at the meeting were Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Russian ambassador in Cairo, Mikhail Bogdanov, the President of the Chamber of Trade and Industry, Yevgeny Primakov, the Chairman of the Committee for International Affairs of the Federation Council, Mikhail Margelov, the Head of the Federal Agency for Industry, Boris Aleshin.
