Mr Putin described the submarine fleet as one of the principle instruments of the national defence policy, a guarantee of the country’s security and national interests and a key factor in the strategic deterrent process.

The President congratulated Russia’s submariners on their professional holiday and gave them his best wishes.

Mr Putin also spoke with veterans and with current submarine fleet officers during an informal conversation over a cup of tea.
