Acting President Vladimir Putin met with heads of administrations of eight districts of the Chechen Republic

March 15, 2000, The Kremlin, Moscow

The main issues discussed at the meeting included the restoration of the region’s social and industrial infrastructure and the organisation of peaceful life in the republic, as well as problems in Chechnya’s fuel and energy sector and the agro-industrial complex. The delegates criticised the Russian Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture for delays in the transfer of funds allocated for a spring sowing campaign in the region.

Preparations for presidential election slated for March 26 were also discussed. Mr Putin underlined the need for Chechen citizens to be able to exercise their voting rights.
