President Vladimir Putin sent a message to his Kyrgyz counterpart Askar Akayev

March 7, 2001

The Russian President said it was necessary to further promote friendship and mutually-beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

He thanked Mr Akayev for his invitation to go to Kyrgyzstan on an official visit and accepted it with pleasure. The timing of the visit will be determined through diplomatic channels.

The message said that the visit should above all seek to make progress in the implementation of the accords reached in July 2000, when bilateral talks were held in Moscow.
