Russian-American relations should be focused on the interests of both countries’ peoples and should not depend on political needs of the moment in either Russia or the United States, Mr Putin said.

The President noted the importance and global dimension of the subjects the group’s members included on the agenda for their meetings. Mr Putin particularly highlighted the geopolitical overview with a focus on Russian-U.S. relations, the world economy, nuclear non-proliferation, the energy sector, and common interests between Russia and the United States.

The President said he was happy to see how quickly the initiative to set up the working group had become reality.
