Before leaving for China, Vladimir Putin held a briefing session with permanent members of the Security Council.
Discussion of international affairs focused in particular on the situation in Ukraine, where punitive operations using regular army troops have continued over recent days and there are signs of growing tension. Current international affairs that will be on the agenda at the talks in Shanghai were also discussed.
Taking part in the meeting were Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin, Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Rashid Nurgaliyev, and permanent member of the Security Council Boris Gryzlov.
