State Council /
Presidential Aide and Secretary of the State Council Igor Levitin held the first meeting of the working group to prepare an upcoming State Council Presidium meeting on a national consumer rights protection system. The working group is headed by Governor of the Kurgan Region Alexei Kokorin.
Other participants in the meeting included Director of the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare Anna Popova, representatives of the regional executive authorities, members of the research, expert and business communities, and representatives of relevant federal executive bodies.
The participants noted the need to outline areas for work to enhance the national consumer rights protection system, taking into account challenges arising from new forms of trade, especially e-commerce, and the need to create systems to protect against trans-border fraud.
It was underlined that work on protecting consumer rights should focus particularly on informing people about their rights. This is especially relevant for the most vulnerable groups in society, such as the elderly, children, people with disabilities, and low-income groups.
The working group will analyse implementation of consumer rights protection legislation at the federal, regional and local levels, taking into account the new UN guiding principles on protecting consumer rights, approved on December 22, 2015, and on this basis draft measures required to enhance consumer protection mechanisms and ensure a better quality of life for people in Russia.
