State Council /
Presidential Aide and Secretary of the State Council Igor Levitin chaired the second meeting of the working group to prepare for a State Council Presidium meeting, scheduled to take place in September on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum. The State Council Presidium meeting will focus on measures to implement strategic objectives set out in the Presidential Executive Order of May 7, 2018 with a view to promoting priority socioeconomic development of Russia’s Far East.
The meeting was attended by Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East Alexander Kozlov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Regional Policy and Issues of the North and Far East Nikolai Kharitonov, and representatives of all branches of government, businesses and the expert community.
Acting Governor of the Magadan Region Sergei Nosov, who heads the working group, briefed the participants on the progress made in drafting the working group’s report. The drafting team reviewed proposals submitted by federal ministries, agencies, development institutions, regions of Russia’s Far East and businesses. Deputy Head of the working group and Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East Alexander Kozlov reported on the proposed structure of the report.
The participants in the meeting highlighted that the Far Eastern economy is showing above-average growth rates, with new businesses recruiting personnel. For this reason, there is an increasingly urgent need to focus on promoting comprehensive development in the region while prioritising improvement in quality of life.
It was also noted that the specific goals related to facilitating priority development in the Far East over the next six years, as well as measures to achieve them, must be factored into national projects that are currently being developed.
