State Council /
Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin and Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin co-chaired a seminar-conference on ways to reach the national goals in housing construction and in developing the regions.
The workshop was attended by regional governors and their deputies in charge of construction, as well as representatives of federal government executive bodies, development institutes and the expert community.
In a welcome speech, First Deputy Chief of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Kiriyenko emphasised that the Government and the State Council Commission are holding a themed workshop with the regional governors for the first time. At this meeting, the regions are expected to offer the Government options for the development of the industry based on the local situation.
Igor Levitin noted that the spread of the coronavirus has become a serious challenge for the construction industry. Construction was stopped in some regions in the spring of 2020, and there was a workforce shortage. However, the industry managed to restore the pace of housing construction and prevent a decline in road construction. The allocation of additional funds gave a powerful impetus to the development of the infrastructure in the regions.
Marat Khusnullin reported on the priorities in housing construction: the comprehensive development of territories, low interest mortgage programmes, resettlement from dilapidated housing, and accessible rental housing. He also spoke about the need to use land more productively and increase the potential of urban construction for reaching the national goals in general.
The participants discussed ways of fundamentally reaching the housing terget that the President set for the construction industry at the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects meeting on July 13, 2020.
The workshop took place in a themed roundtable discussion format.
Experts will consider the proposals offered at the workshop during the drafting of the strategy for the construction industry and the infrastructure development of the regions.
