Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin and Kemerovo Region Governor Sergei Tsivilev chaired a videoconference meeting of the State Council Commission on Energy to discuss the domestic natural gas market.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Energy Pavel Sorokin, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy Pavel Zavalny, Deputy Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Siberian Federal District Vadim Golovko, Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service Maxim Shaskolsky, and representatives from relevant federal and regional executive bodies and fuel and energy companies.
Igor Levitin noted that building gas supply lines for the regions was a major socioeconomic development resource, and creating a specialised transportation system in eastern Russia would increase the share of gas in the fuel and energy balance of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and meet the needs of the economy and households.
Sergei Tsivilev pointed out that gas infrastructure development would make new investment projects possible in the regions, would expand production sites and provide social facilities with gas.
Pavel Sorokin reported on the Ministry of Energy’s ongoing efforts targeting the domestic gas market priorities and mentioned effective interaction with the State Council Commission on Energy. He believes this interaction is particularly important at a time when the forecast fuel and energy stocks of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation are being formed. The interaction should be permanent and steady, and should involve all parties interested in the effective functioning of the fuel and energy sector at all management levels.
The participants focused on the domestic gas market and options for redirecting Russian fuel supplies from traditional production regions in Western Siberia to the domestic and new international markets, including the creation of small and medium-sized LNG plants. In addition, the participants reviewed the prospects for expanding gas infrastructure in Eastern Siberia and the status of the implementation of the regional programme for social gas supply aimed at improving the living standards and reducing environmental impacts.
