Meeting with permanent members of the Security Council

March 11, 2016, Moscow

Vladimir Putin held a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council.

The participants discussed in detail the efforts to resolve the situation in Syria, including in the context of the talks that will begin soon in Geneva under UN aegis. The participants noted the importance of having all parties represented at the talks, including the Syrian Kurds.

The safety of Russian establishments abroad was also discussed at the meeting. This issue has become particularly relevant following hooligan-style attacks on Russian diplomatic missions in Ukraine.

Domestic socioeconomic issues were also on the agenda, and the meeting looked too at the issue of doping in Russian sport.

Taking part in the meeting were Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov, Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Rashid Nurgaliyev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, and Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov.
