September 25, 2014, Vladivostok

On the final day of his working trip to the Far Eastern Federal District, Sergei Ivanov visited Vladivostok.

The Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office toured the Okean National Children’s Centre near Vladivostok, where members of school search teams have gathered. Mr Ivanov visited the Road to Victory exhibition and spoke to participants and winners of the competition among school search teams. During the meeting, Sergei Ivanov assured everyone that the state would enhance its support for the search movement.

Later, in the port of Vladivostok Mr Ivanov attended the send-off ceremony for the training vessel Professor Khlyustin, which departed on an expedition to monitor radiation in the northwestern Pacific. The Chief of Staff went on board the ship and met with the crew. Speaking to them, Mr Ivanov noted the significance of research in the area of the Kuril islands, especially in the aftermath of the 2011 accident at the Fukushima nuclear power station in Japan. The crew is to collect the latest and most detailed data, which is especially important in light of the growing volumes of fish caught in the Far East.

Mr Ivanov also visited the Far Eastern industrial park of automobile technology, where he learned about the operation of the MAZDA SOLLERS Manufacturing Rus facility.

At the end of his two-day trip to the Far East, the Chief of Staff answered journalists’ questions. In particular, he said Russia did not intend to ban the import of right-hand drive cars imported from Japan, though their share on the Russian market was expected to go down following the launch of automobile production in the Far East. He also said that the Russian Government would allocate 5 billion rubles [$130 million] over the next three years to launch the production of automobile engines in the Vladivostok special economic zone.
