On the eve of Victory Day, Vladimir Putin laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden.
Taking part in the ceremony to mark the 69th anniversary of the Victory were Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov, State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, President of the Constitutional Court Valery Zorkin, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, heads of ministries and agencies, deputies, senators and Great Patriotic War veterans.
Service members of the Moscow garrison troops representing all types and branches of the Armed Forces marched past the monument to the accompaniment of an orchestra.
The President also laid flowers at the memorials to Hero Cities and Cities of Military Glory by the Kremlin Wall.
