Vladimir Putin held a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council.
The participants discussed, in particular, the developments in the Persian Gulf. They expressed serious concern over the rising tension and urged the countries involved to show restraint, because unwise actions could have unpredictable consequences in terms of regional and global stability.
During a discussion on Georgia, they agreed on the dangerous nature of the Russophobic provocation against Russian lawmakers that had been orchestrated by local radicals. The Foreign Ministry was instructed to warn Russian citizens, including tourists who plan to travel to Georgia or who are already there, about the potential dangers created by the radicals’ actions.
In addition, a number of current issues on the Russian domestic agenda were discussed.
The meeting was attended by Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Anton Vaino, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin, and Special Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport Sergei Ivanov.
