Daghestan’s President briefed Dmitry Medvedev on the situation in the republic’s mountainous districts, where several settlements have suffered following serious fires in the area.

The President instructed the Cabinet to step up the work on the proposals for material and technical re-equipment of fire-fighting services. Dmitry Medvedev and Vladimir Putin also discussed measures being taken to resolve social problems faced by citizens affected by the fires.

Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting to draft and approve additional fire safety measures for strategic facilities.

At a meeting with Minister of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief Sergei Shoigu, Dmitry Medvedev noted the need to create modern fire-fighting services and to re-equip the existing stations and brigades.

On Ukraine’s initiative, Dmitry Medvedev and Viktor Yanukovych had a telephone conversation on August 1.

The President is receiving constant updates from the governors of the fire-affected regions.

Dmitry Medvedev instructed the Government to take urgent measures to put out fires, help victims’ families and others affected by the fires, and allocate compensation funds for property destroyed and building new homes. 

Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law On Amendments to the Federal Law On the Federal Security Service and to the Russian Federation Code of Administrative Offences.

Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law to regulate safe operation of mining activities when mining coal and oil shale.

The President heard reports from Head of the FSB Alexander Bortnikov and Minister of the Interior Rashid Nurgaliyev on the investigation into the attack on the Baksan Hydroelectric Power Plant and a report by Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin on his trip to Kabardino-Balkaria. Head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic Arsen Kanokov also took part in the meeting.

Dmitry Medvedev submitted to the State Duma draft Federal Law On Security.

The meeting addressed measures for ensuring children’s safety while they vacation at summer camps.

The first working meeting of G8 heads of state and government focused on key issues on the international agenda, including global development, security and the state of the global economy.

Dmitry Medvedev approved a list of instructions issued following a meeting with Chechnya’s leadership on June 14, 2010.

The agenda of the President’s upcoming visits to the United States and Canada and the G8 and G20 summits were discussed.

Dmitry Medvedev issued instructions to Minister of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief Sergei Shoigu to provide humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan.
