Dmitry Medvedev approved a list of instructions issued following a March 22 meeting of the working group to draft proposals for developing the Open Government system, devoted to countering corruption.

Mr Lebedev briefed Dmitry Medvedev on the Supreme Court’s performance results for 2011. Improvements to the criminal procedure legislation were also discussed at the meeting. 

Dmitry Medvedev signed a list of instructions on the implementation of measures outlined in the Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly.

Issues on the agenda included improving the work of the examination boards conducting qualification tests for candidates for judges’ positions, possibilities for reducing the workload of magistrates, and limits on arbitration courts’ subordination.

The discussion centred on non-procedural petitions to the court on matters under its consideration, in particular regarding the possibility of publishing information on such petitions. Measures to protect minors from sexual abuse were considered separately.

Dmitry Medvedev issued instructions to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, President of the Supreme Court Vyacheslav Lebedev, President of the Higher Arbitration Court Anton Ivanov, and Director General of the Supreme Court’s Judicial Department Alexander Gusev as part of the drive to increase the openness and accessibility of the justice system.
