Transport of Russia International Forum

December 6, 2012, Moscow

Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov took part in the opening of the VI Transport of Russia International Forum.

Mr Ivanov read out Vladimir Putin’s greetings to the participants in Transport Week 2012, the event of which the Transport of Russia forum is a part.

In his remarks at the forum, Mr Ivanov said that one of the top priorities in the transport sector is meeting the growing demand for transport services. The sector must also continue to focus on raising quality and security and making its services affordable for all social groups.

The main objectives in the transport sector are set out in the National Transport Strategy through to 2030. This document forecasts that mobility of Russia’s population will more than double over the next 20 years, primarily through a balanced price policy and intensive development of all types of public transport, including rapid and high-speed transport. The Strategy’s implementation will help to develop a competitive transport services market, achieve a 2–4-fold increase in labour productivity in the sector, and cut energy consumption by a third.

Mr Ivanov said that another top priority is integration into international transport routes, especially within the  Customs Union, the  Common Economic Space, the  CIS, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and APEC.

Mr Ivanov also visited an exhibition organised as part of Transport Week 2012.
