The meeting discussed, in particular, the United Nations Security Council draft resolution on Syria, which was vetoed by Russia during the recent vote in the UN Security Council.

Issues discussed at the meeting included, in particular, ensuring the safety of Russian citizens and representative offices abroad in emergency situations.

Dmitry Medvedev signed Executive Order Provisions on the Russian Federation Security Council.

Dmitry Medvedev gave the main outlines for development efforts in the aviation sector over the coming years. Meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev discussed, in particular, issues concerning the development of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, and various aspects of Russian-Japanese relations.

Dmitry Medvedev instructed the Government to draft an Energy Security Doctrine.

Dmitry Medvedev held a Security Council meeting on developing modern telecommunications systems for national defence and security needs and maintaining law and order. The Security Council members discussed a draft of the main state policy directions in this area until 2020, and the steps needed to implement them.

Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting to draft and approve additional fire safety measures for strategic facilities.

The agenda of the President’s upcoming visits to the United States and Canada and the G8 and G20 summits were discussed.

Opening the meeting, Dmitry Medvedev noted that the shipbuilding industry needs to undergo more intensive technological modernisation in order to meet the domestic market’s demands and expand exports.

The President congratulated the meeting’s participants on the ratification by the Russian parliament and Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada of the Russian-Ukrainian agreement extending Russia’s lease of a naval base and presence of its Black Sea Fleet on Ukrainian territory for 25 years.
