During his working trip to Uzbekistan, Dmitry Medvedev met with President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov. The two leaders discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation in trade, the economy and humanitarian sphere, as well as current regional issues.

During the meeting, Dmitry Medvedev issued a number of instructions to Grigory Rapota regarding the monitoring of measures to improve the environmental situation in the Volga Federal District.

Particular attention at the meeting was paid to trade and economic cooperation, ways to further develop the Partnership for Modernisation concept, and work on a new Russia-EU framework agreement.

Dmitry Medvedev and Valery Shantsev discussed modernisation of the region’s chemical production facilities.

The President attended an official reception marking Social Worker’s Day.

The meeting examined possibilities for reducing the compulsory insurance payments that employers are required to pay to social support funds.

Subjects discussed at the meeting included cooperation between NGOs and the various state agencies, improving the environmental protection laws, and the need to enforce environmental protection rules and raise responsibility for looking after the environment.

Dmitry Medvedev visited the Alexander Pushkin State Russian Language Institute on the poet’s birthday.

Dmitry Medvedev ordered an investigation into the fire at a Defence Ministry arms depot in Udmurtia which set off explosions of ammunition stocks, and called for those responsible for the situation to be identified and made to answer.

Dmitry Medvedev and Silvio Berlusconi reviewed bilateral cooperation and international issues, in particular the situation in the Middle East and Libya, as well as missile defence in Europe.

Dmitry Medvedev presented the Order of Parental Glory to parents of large families of 6–13 children at a ceremony at the Grand Kremlin Palace coinciding with International Children’s Day.

The President instructed Prosecutor General Yury Chaika to tighten control over the investigation concerning criminal cases related to lawyer Sergei Magnitsky.

The plans for development of the Armed Forces and other military organisations through 2015 and development prospects through 2020 as well as legal mechanisms for provision of housing to the servicemen were the subjects of discussion.

Fighting wildfires and lifting the ban on grain exports were discussed.

Dmitry Medvedev and Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj discussed the development of political dialogue and promising areas of trade and economic cooperation,and exchanged views on international issues, including the situation in Central and Southeast Asia.

Alexei Miller reported to Dmitry Medvedev on gas supplies to the domestic market and European consumers. The discussion also focused on Russian-Ukrainian gas cooperation.

Following the G8 summit, Dmitry Medvedev answered Russian and foreign journalists' questions.

Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama discussed the development of bilateral relations and the implementation of the New START Treaty, as well as the prospects for deploying a missile defence system, Russia's WTO accession and the situation in the Middle East and North Africa.
