The President answered questions on a variety of current issues, including international politics, security, the economy, the Iranian nuclear programme, and the situation in Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The two leaders discussed the pricing of Russian natural gas supplies to Ukraine. Mr Medvedev noted that the subject is indeed very important for Ukraine and that Russia is ready to review Kiev’s new proposals regarding gas prices. He suggested having this matter addressed by the respective ministries of the two nations.

The main subjects on the agenda were bilateral relations and also relations with the European Union, of which Spain currently holds the rotating presidency.

In his remarks at the event, the President said that Nord Stream will make it possible to deliver an additional 55 billion cubic metres of natural gas a year to the European Union countries and represents a real contribution by Russia to Europe’s energy security.

The meeting took place as part of Dmitry Medvedev’s working visit to the Czech Republic.

The President stressed in his remarks the need to bring down road construction and operation costs and introduce new motorways construction technology as soon as possible.

The President congratulated the athletes and the coaches on their outstanding victory.

The Russian Paralympic team won the biggest number of medals at the Vancouver Games: 12 gold, 16 silver, and 10 bronze.

Mr Medvedev expressed his condolences to the families of the police officers killed in the terrorist attack in Kizlyar, and instructed Mr Magomedov to present state decorations to the victims’ families.
