Dmitry Medvedev discussed measures to fight extremism at a meeting with the heads of law enforcement and security agencies, plenipotentiary presidential envoys in the federal districts, and a number of regional governors.

The discussion centred on non-procedural petitions to the court on matters under its consideration, in particular regarding the possibility of publishing information on such petitions. Measures to protect minors from sexual abuse were considered separately.

Dmitry Medvedev approved the Fundamental Principles of State Policy on Developing Legal Knowledge and Awareness Among Citizens.

In accordance with the Federal Law On the Police Force, the President issued executive orders on appointments to senior Interior Ministry posts.

Officers appointed to senior command positions in the law enforcement and security agencies were presented and had their senior military (special) titles conferred at a ceremony held in the Grand Kremlin Palace’s St George Hall.

Dmitry Medvedev and Sergei Sobyanin discussed ways to address Moscow’s urban planning and transport issues. The Mayor of Moscow also informed the President on the progress of the capital’s healthcare development programme.

Dmitry Medvedev submitted to the State Duma for ratification the Agreement between Russia and Columbia on Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal Cases.

Practical enforcement of anti-gambling legislation was the subject of discussion.

Dmitry Medvedev instructed Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Prosecutor General Yury Chaika, and Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin to submit proposals within a two-week period to improve legislation to discourage illegal gambling.

During a meeting with Interior Minister, Dmitry Medvedev informed Rashid Nurgaliyev of signing several executive orders in connection with the new law.

Dmitry Medvedev took part in a national coordination meeting of heads of law enforcement agencies. The main subjects on the agenda were counterterrorism security, fighting organised crime, combating corruption and extremism, and bolstering public law and order.

Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law On Amendments to Article 117 of the Criminal Penitentiary Code of the Russian Federation.

The President announced the law’s signing at a meeting examining the Interior Ministry’s main areas of work. Mr Medvedev congratulated the meeting’s participants and everyone in the Interior Ministry on the news, and said that they now need to make sure they measure up to the new law’s demands.

The discussion focused on application of restraint measures to individuals suspected or accused of committing crimes.

Dmitry Medvedev announced the signing of an Executive Order appointing Alexander Bastrykin Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting on additional measures to maintain law and order, had a working meeting with Ryazan Region Governor and visited some Interior Ministry facilities.

Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the officers on their promotions and appointments and wished them success in serving the country. 

Dmitry Medvedev instructed Prosecutor General Yury Chaika to take charge of the investigation into the events described by Kushchevskaya county investigator Ekaterina Rogoza.
