Dmitry Medvedev announced that a draft law that will make state administration more effective in terms of preventing corruption will soon be submitted to the State Duma.

Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting with Valentina Matviyenko, who had been elected speaker of the Upper House of Parliament.

Among the subjects discussed at the meeting were investment policy for technological modernisation and the possibilities for developing single-industry towns. 

Dmitry Medvedev and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress Wu Bangguo discussed, in particular, development of Russian-Chinese inter-parliamentary relations.

Before the VIII Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum, Dmitry Medvedev and Nursultan Nazarbayev reviewed bilateral cooperation issues and the future development of the Customs Union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Dmitry Medvedev and university rectors, representatives of student organisations and heads of several Russian regions discussed the issues of increasing scholarships, improving students’ living conditions, developing campuses and students’ healthcare.

The meeting addressed possible methods for supporting the club, which lost its core members in a plane crash near Yaroslavl, as well as support for the victims’ families.

The main theme of the Forum was The Modern State in the Age of Social Diversity.

The President laid flowers at the site of the crash in which members of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl ice hockey team lost their lives.

Dmitry Medvedev, HM Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and HRH Prince Consort Henrik took part in the opening of the Danish-Russian photo exhibition The Arctic at the Moscow House of Photography.

Dmitry Medvedev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed the forthcoming visit of Turkmenistan’s leader to Russia, as well as bilateral economic and humanitarian cooperation.

The CIS leaders took stock of 20 years of cooperation. After the talks, CIS heads of state adopted a package of documents on cooperation within the CIS, as well as an agreement to perpetuate the memory of the Commonwealth nations that fought in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945.
